iPageant investigates the notion of friendship—in particular, relationships that develop within a community that exists in both the real world and the virtual world of online social networking.
For this installation/event Dennis Harper assigned to a real house, opportunities characteristic of an online social networking home page, creating an environment in which the virtual and physical community coexisted. The sculptural component of the exhibition—iconic television studio equipment, sets, and props, etc.—provided settings for a variety of performances and activities that were televised (closed circuit) throughout the evening on several televisions placed conveniently around the house. The television screen was the metaphorical "wall" upon which the artist, with the help of friends, posted "messages." All of the participants in this event were "friends" of the artist who contributed in that capacity rather than as collabortors or part of a collective or member of a conventional group exhibition. All of the participants were culled from among the artist's Facebook friends, and the event was promoted primarily online.
